In 2016 the work in the schools shifted to repair of the original buildings (where possible), raise awareness of child protection and improve learning outcomes.

Additionally, AMURT embarked on a women’s empowerment and capacity building in the communities surrounding the schools. For this, workshops and awareness sessions was held for 725 people on Gender Based Violence, Legal Rights and Human Trafficking.

To increase capacity and earning potential, vocational training were held in cooperation with local women’s groups. The topics of the training were tailoring, vegetable gardening and food processing. The women are then connected to special markets for locally produced items and are now successfully selling their products there.
