Párthasárathi Krśńa and Sáḿkhya Philosophy by Shrii Shrii Anandamurti

In analysing Vraja Krśńa, we see that, being the embodiment of Parama Puruśa or Táraka Brahma, He is beyond the reach of philosophy. It is said: Yato váco nivarttante aprápya manasá saha; Ánandaḿ Brahmańo vidván má vibheti kutashcana. [Brahma is the One from whom words and mind return disappointed, after failing to fathom Its depths. […]

Ananda Kanan Newsletter – October 2015

Welcome to Ananda Cafe at Ananda Kanan!

The heart of Ananda Kanan resides in Baba’s Quarters. The senses of sound and taste may have found a new home in front of the dining hall in the Ananda Cafe. Renovations have been underway in this area for over two years, and in October an open house was held to celebrate the completion of the work. 50-60 people from all over the Ozarks region came to enjoy food prepared by the Ananda Kanan kitchen staff- Naomi Minahan and Yumi Jolliff, and listen to the soothing sounds of Butterflytones by Coburn Tuller, a local musician who makes and plays his own instruments. 10 people joined dada Kbs introductory meditation class and many more got a tour of Ananda Kanan. The Ananda Cafe includes the patio area, with a fountain, herb and flower gardens  and room for up to 8 tables, and the dome- an internet cafe complete with wifi and tables and seating inside.

Naomi (left) with assistant Yumi, with help from Sudhiira and KB, handle all the cooking for groups and events at AK.
Listening to Coburns music-so inspiring!

And if we can help someone in need, we should. That’s why after I was done, I walked around and gave food and $100 to every homeless …

Mexican vegetables are featured in a cuisine that combines indigenous and Spanish influences. Mexico is self-sufficient in most fruits and vegetables (that is, Mexican farmers grow enough to meet the needs of the people), and in beans, rice, and sugar. However, many people living in rural areas are poor, and are barely able to grow enough food to feed their own families. When I lived in Oaxaca, I liked to go the food stands that were right outside the university buildings downtown, which was right next to a small park, with plenty of room for the food vendors to set up their …

Yoga, Tantra, and Kevalá Bhakti

Today’s subject of discourse is “Yoga, Tantra and Kevalá Bhakti”. In the sphere of spiritual practice, yoga, Tantra and kevalá bhakti, all three, are essential for the realization of Parama Puruśa. We should not ignore any of the three, although [ultimately] Parama Puruśa can only be attained by dint of bhakti – rather, kevalá bhakti [non-attributional devotion].

Story of the Uniform

Even though all the talk in virtual forum regarding acarya uniforms and the repercussions of wearing them in public or not has concluded, this has given me rise to gather more information about what is the full uniform and what it represents. They are so commonplace a sight for Margiis, but how often does one stop to pay attention past who is freshly ironed or not, how easy it is to spot the orange dot in a crowd at the airport pickup curb, or perhaps muse upon the subtly different shades of fabric that range from the color of orange juice to one a deeper shade reminiscent of ripe mango.
