Summer Conference 2024

The Summer Conference of the New York Sector, held from June 30 to July 5 at Ananda Kanan in Missouri, was a resounding success. The event brought together over 80 participants for a spiritually enriching experience that combined devotional practices, educational seminars, cultural programs, and a strong sense of community.

Acarya Shiilabhadrananada Avadhuta, Acarya Diiptimanananda Avadhuta, and Acarya Iishvarakrsnananda Avadhuta led insightful seminar classes on a wide range of topics, from social issues to spiritual devotion. Their teachings inspired and empowered the attendees, encouraging Margiis to take on greater organizational responsibilities within the Sector. The organizational review of the Sector’s progress emphasized the importance of active participation, fostering a renewed sense of purpose and unity among the community members.

One of the main attractions of the conference was the daily devotional programs. Participants engaged in Kiirtan, Katha Kiirtan, and other spiritual activities that deepened their connection with the divine. The children’s programs were another highlight, offering fun and educational activities that instilled a sense of spirituality in the younger generation. These included yoga classes, storytelling, crafts, and much more. The Sector’s focus on attracting and nurturing the next generation of Margiis was evident throughout the event.

A particularly memorable part of the conference was the group’s participation in the annual July 4th parade in Willow Springs. Marching with other local organizations, the group brought joy to the spectators with their lively Kiirtan and musical performances. This public display of spirituality and celebration was well-received, further strengthening the Sector’s presence in the local community.

The cultural highlight of the event was the RAWA (Renaissance Artists and Writers Association) program.Over 20 children and adults showcased their talents through performances of drama, dance, and music. The variety and quality of the performances were a testament to the dedication of the participants. Acarya Iishvarakrsnananda Avadhuta encouraged attendees to host more RU (Renaissance Universal) and RAWA programs in their local areas, emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting cultural and spiritual values through the arts.

The Ananda Mela, a joyous gathering filled with workshops and activities, was another major highlight. Workshops ranged from tie-dye t-shirt making led by Avadhútika Ánanda Acirá Ácáryá to a theater workshop with Brother Niirmal and a painting workshop by Brother Sudhiira where participants created beautiful collective artwork. Dada Shubbhudyananda offered a photography workshop, while Brother Mukunda led a session on health kinesiology. The workshops were engaging, creative, and fun, allowing participants to express themselves and learn new skills.

The Children’s Program, designed by Didi Ananda Acirá and Didi Ananda Radhika, was a highlight for both the children and their parents. With activities such as cooking classes (where they made pizza and smoothies), painting, drama, kids yoga, meditation, storytelling, and games, the children were constantly engaged in meaningful and fun activities. Parents were delighted to see their children so happy and involved, and the program served as an important part of the overall conference experience.

Daily Kiirtans, bonfires, and sports activities provided opportunities for both spiritual and physical engagement. The conference included time for swimming in the river, yoga classes, and of course, plenty of time for meditation. These moments of reflection and devotion were vital to the retreat’s success, grounding participants in spiritual practices while also offering moments of joy and connection.

By the Blue Spring River

The Outing to the Blue Springs River is always the favorite of most of the participants, especially the families with children. During the outing, we drive about half an hour to the river and spend about an hour swimming and playing. Then, we do collective Kiirtana and meditation and have a picnic lunch. This time, Didi Ananda Hitaprabha and Didi Ananda Acira had prepared delicious lunches, including vegetarian BBQs, baked sweet potatoes, spring rolls, and other tasty and nutritious items.

During the New York Sectorial Conference, Margiis and Acaryas enthusiastically took turns assisting with meal preparations. Under the guidance of kitchen in-charges Avadhutika Ananda Hitaprabha Acarya and Ac. Diiptimanananda Avt., the meals were crafted with great love and care. The food was not only delicious but also reflected the devotion of those who prepared it. Margiis took pride in their kitchen duties, sharing their favorite and tastiest recipes. Their joy in service was palpable, creating an atmosphere of warmth and togetherness, where the simple act of cooking became an expression of love and unity.

During the Summer Conference, various organizational meetings take place, such as the annual Ananda Marga, Inc. meeting, Ananda Kanan management meeting, ACB and BP meetings, and individual and regional meetings with the Sectorial Secretary, Acarya Abhiramananda Avadhuta.

The event culminated in a Closing Ceremony where SS Dada, Acarya Abhiramamanda Avadhuta, expressed his gratitude for the hard work and progress made by the Dadas, Didis, and bhuktis of the New York Sector. He encouraged everyone to continue their disciplined efforts, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and the use of individual talents to further Baba’s mission. His words motivated participants to carry the spirit of the conference back to their local communities and continue working toward collective progress. In recognition of outstanding contributions, special mementos were presented to individuals who had made significant impacts, honoring their dedication and inspiring the entire community to remain actively engaged in the Sector’s activities.

This conference was truly a celebration of devotion, culture, and collective progress, leaving all who attended with cherished memories and a renewed sense of purpose.
