Spiritual Adventure Retreat at Lake Spaulding, California

There is something deeply healing about being in nature—walking among trees, breathing the mountain air, and sitting in silence under the vast sky. From August 6–10, 2025, a group of ten brothers and sisters gathered for a Meditation Retreat that blended the joy of hiking with the depth of spiritual practice. The program was lovingly organized by Brother Maungal Dev, Ácárya Diiptimánánanda Avadhúta, and Avadhútiká Ánanda Acirá Ácáryá.

The retreat began with a day of preparation at Ananda Dhiira, setting the tone with Kiirtan, meditation, and collective spirit. On the second day, we drove to the Emerald Pool trailhead, sang Kiirtana, and did noon meditation by the crystal clear river water. Then, we drove to Fuller Lake and took an afternoon rest by the calm waters before hiking to Spaulding Lake. That night was spent camping by the lakeside, bathed in the glow of the full moon reflecting on the water.

The next days unfolded like a pilgrimage through nature’s temple. The group followed the Spaulding Trail toward Beyers and nearby lakes, passing through a magical forest alive with wildflowers, berries, and the fresh greenery of summer. Though the days were warm and the hikes sometimes demanding, every step brought new wonder, and every tiredness faded the moment they arrived at the cool, serene lakeshores. Nights were spent under starlit skies, with the moon shining gently over the still waters, creating moments of awe and gratitude.

Throughout the retreat, the rhythm of the day was anchored in Kiirtan and meditation—three to four times daily. In these moments of collective silence, supported by the power of nature, everyone experienced deep meditation, touching a profound stillness within. Preparing and sharing meals together added to the spirit of connection and simplicity, turning even cooking and eating into acts of harmony.

By the end, participants shared a deep sense of joy and fulfillment. The hikes, the companionship, the beauty of the mountains and lakes—all combined to create not only physical exercise and refreshment but also a profound spiritual experience. Being immersed in nature, the presence of the Supreme Creator felt near and tangible. Every flower, tree, and ripple of water became a reminder of His majesty and grace.

All ten participants left with hearts full of gratitude and inspiration, already looking forward to the next hiking and meditation adventure.
