Ananda Marga’s service in Los Angeles is a beacon of hope for the poor and homeless, especially through its ongoing food distribution efforts. Thanks to the addition of a new van, the team has been able to significantly increase the amount of food they transport from the local Food Bank. This van is a Mercedes Menz Sprinter from 2018, and with its 6-cylinder turbo engine and a capacity to fit three large pallets, allows the volunteers to bring up to 4,900 pounds of food in one trip, improving the efficiency of the program. The vehicle will be instrumental in helping Ananda Marga serve around 2,500 people per month, split between two main programs.
The team, led by Acarya Muktatmananda Avadhuta, has 20 dedicated volunteers, many of whom speak Spanish, enabling them to connect with a broader segment of the community. They regularly provide essential services in Skid Row, Los Angeles, distributing 180 to 200 bags of food to homeless individuals. Each bag is pre-packed and ready for distribution when recipients arrive, ensuring a smooth and dignified process. Dada Muktatmananda, fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese, effectively communicates with many of the people served, fostering trust and a deeper sense of connection. Through these tireless efforts, Ananda Marga continues to make a meaningful impact on one of Los Angeles’ most vulnerable populations.
